Spring Branch Independent School District has 35,000 students across 47 schools in the Houston Metro Area. It’s regarded as a high performing school district in Texas, and is always looking for ways to find efficiencies to best support its stakeholders, students, staff, and faculty.
In fact, the school district recently received the 2019 National Purchasing Institute Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award, given to professional purchasing organizations demonstrating excellence in innovation, productivity, eProcurement leadership, training, and certification.
In an effort to streamline the purchasing of classroom supplies across their 47 schools, Spring Branch ISD’s Director of Procurement Services recently engaged with Amazon Business to perform a thorough analysis of historical spend. Through this process, they discovered there was a big opportunity for the district: Up to a 30% savings opportunity within the office and classroom supplies category, while keeping their existing contracts and maintaining their current eProcurement system to access Amazon Business. This equates to a savings of $154,000 annually.
"With Amazon Business, we have new opportunities to cut costs. We can potentially return $154k annually to the classroom. This allows us to do better for our students, and that’s what we care most about,” said Rick Gay, Director of Procurement Services at Spring Brand Independent School District. “For every dollar we save, that's a dollar returned to the classroom.”
